Energy & Renewable Resources
We have provided advice to all types of projects for the development of energy resources in our country.
In particular, we have provided assistance to projects for the development of renewable energy, gas pipelines, wind farms, photovoltaics power, the construction of a combined cycle power plant, and other associated infrastructure works, such as T-Lines.
We have also advised clients on the exploration of petroleum resources within Uruguay’s ocean boundaries, with significant experience in this field.
In renewable energy, we have advised sponsors, lenders and banking agents in the various phases of these projects. We also have significant experience advising contractors and subcontractors involved in major renewable energy projects developed in Uruguay.
Hughes & Hughes is included in the Guide of Participants in Wind Power Energy created by the Wind Power Energy Program of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) through the Energy and Nuclear Technology Division (www.energiaeolica.gub.uy).

SHELL GROUP
Since its establishment in Uruguay, we have advised them in all legal areas, in particular in the energy field.
CONTOUR GLOBAL
We advised them during all the bidding stages for a project for the generation of electric energy from wind power source.
ADME
We helped ADME (Administración del Mercado de Energía Eléctrica) during the first stages of its management in relation to the contracting of private agents for the generation of wind power electric energy.
ENRON DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION
We collaborated in the bid for the project, construction and exploitation of a system to transport natural gas through gas pipes for the supply of natural gas from Argentina.
SIEMENS WESTINGHOUSE
We worked in the international public bids for the repowering of Central José Batlle y Ordóñez and for a combined cycle thermal power station for electric energy generation.
AKUO ENERGY
We advised Akuo Energy -and its subsidiaries in Uruguay- in connection with the development and installation of their wind farms in Florida and Lavalleja, for approximately 150 MW in total.
INVENERGY
We advised Invenergy Group in all legal aspects in relation to its projects located in Uruguay, including a 50 MW photovoltaic power station, a 71 MW wind farm and a project for an extra high voltage station (500kV) at Cardal, an extra high voltaje t-line Cardal-Punta del Tigre (500kV) and a high voltaje T-line (150kV) Salto Grande-Salto B.
DIF
We advise DIF (Dutch Infrastructure Fund) in all legal aspects related to its projects in Uruguay, including a 50 MW wind farm located in the Department of Cerro Largo and the 117 MW Peralta I & II wind farms located in Tacuarembó.
EQUINOR
Hughes & Hughes advised Equinor ASA on the various legal implications of its offshore exploration activities in different blocks off the Uruguayan coast. Additionally, the Firm advised in the acquisition of the corresponding stakes in the blocks.
PETREL
We advised Petrel in its operations in Uruguay related to the exploration and exploitation of hydrocarbons onshore.
